TRENTON, N.J. (AP) Two congressmen urged pharmacists Monday to replace any cigarettes they sell with anti-tobacco posters bearing images of diseased organs, yellowed teeth and impressionable children.

U.S. Reps. Rush Holt, D-N.J., and Martin Meehan, D-Mass., hope the posters will build support for a measure that would require similar warnings on packaging for cigarettes and other tobacco products.

''It's time to give tobacco the image it deserves, and pharmacists can be important partners in this effort,'' said Holt...

ROLL YOUR OWN. Then you can buy beautiful cases off of Ebay like "I" did!

Three in four Canadians support the warnings, and 44 percent of that country's smokers said the labels increased their motivation to quit, according to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Oh SURE they do, DON'T they Great Dane! heh (damn liars)

''Every smoker and every potential smoker gets these.''

LIAR! Not the ones who ROLL THEIR OWN, they don't!

''Tobacco use can make you impotent.

SHOW ME THE PROOF!

''The work that you're doing in the pharmacy the work that you're doing right here in this health center is so important to making sure that young people know that we're not talking about a product that's cool,'' Meehan said.

SO DON'T BUY FROM A DRUG STORE. SIMPLE AS THAT!

Well, that's nice. Replace cigarettes with pictures of diseased lungs. I would also suggest posting pictures of politicians and then replacing them with pictures of mobsters and prostitutes to more accurately reflect the make up of the Senate and House.

Looks like they are a year or two away from painting smokers with the same brush as the heroin addicts. Welcome to the next WOD. The drunks better get ready, guess who's next.

When alcohol prohibition passed the upstate politicans in NY were sitting in the private clubs getting a great buzz and laughing at the citizens of NYC who suddenly were without alcohol. You don't honestly believe any laws passed will interfer with them do you? If their whiskey gets to costly they'll just take another pay raise, or the lobbyists/manufactures will be happy to supply it.
I used to love Jack Daniels, tried for years to get a case of Gold Label. A friend of mine who ran a state liquor store told me no way, it all went to DC. :-)

First, we have had warnings on cigarette packs since the '60's. As for the images of diseased organs--give me a break! I have worked in medicine and have seen cancerous lung tissue up close and personal and I am still smoking. Should I become ill from smoking it's my responsibility and mine alone.

It is obvious that many states could not survive without our tobacco tax dollars--I can't deal with these hypocrites telling us they are taxing us to save our health, while they are greedily reaping the profits.

You're right, those labels do nothing...... heck teens started collecting them like they do baseball cards, and the number of smokers has stayed the same for years.

Imagine the nerve of our official health-nut, stating that in the year since the smoking ban, the results are already showing in our medical system. I am going to ask him to prove it.

Replace cigarettes with pictures of diseased lungs.

Well, why not?  Abortion protestors
send trucks around with huge pictures
of  'results' on them.

How about, instead of the constant
horrorizing of society, we just do
this? Every pack/carton of tobacco
sold would require a signature
affirming that the purchaser realizes
the health risk of the product, and
gives up any future claim against
the assets of the manufacturer,
the retailer, or anyone else
providing them with the product.

Ahem, you don't suppose they intend to stigmatize smokers now, do ya? How often have you heard/read an anti saying "we don't hate smokers, we hate smoking!" Yeah, right! Write these bastages!

Let us not forget that the Honorable Osama bin Meehan, (Turd - Massachusetts) was the guy who accused George Bush of being a coward on 9-11 because he wasn't in the White House 2 seconds after the WTC murders.

I also seem to remember him stampeding from the Capitol Building when the anthrax scare was on. Probably trampled a few people making his brave exit.

Being a refugee from Massachusetts, and having seen Ma-a-a-h-h-ty in action for years, I can only tell you that he's the quintessential Massachusetts Democrat.

Slimy, finger constantly to the wind, and a bootlicker of the first stripe.

They should put his picture on billboards with a "Kids, don't let this happen to you!" message, for the children, dontcha know.

GO for it! I can imagine that they are really nasty! Thank God I bought several cases from Ebay. I don't have to look even at the Surgeon GENERAL'S warning. LOL

Gee, Why is Mahhhhhhty in NJ?

Could it be something about the government screwing all the pharmacies in Mass by reducing reimbursement to less than cost?

The only thing they make money on now is cigs.

He's going to get a lot of pharmacist fans doing this.
